All incoming PhD students are required to have a laptop computer for the Ivey PhD program. Below is a summary of information from our IT support website. Our IT Support website is located at https://support.ivey.ca.
Laptop Requirements
A new laptop is recommended but most laptops purchased after 2018 will be sufficient. Both Apple and Windows computers are supported, however it is recommended you have an English version of your Operating System installed.
Software Requirements
Microsoft Office
Ivey provides Microsoft Office 365 for Phd Students by going to https://myoffice.ivey.ca. Login using your Ivey username and password.
You may install Microsoft Office on up to 10 devices and you may manage your devices on the Ivey MyOffice website.
Windows Users: It is recommended you install the latest Microsoft Office 365 from https://myoffice.ivey.ca
Operating System
It is recommended you run Windows 10 on your PC or macOS 10.15 Catalina
Antivirus
A full version of antivirus with auto update enabled should be installed on your laptop.

- Access to 2 high-speed multi-function printers dedicated to PhD Students
- VPN connection to access Ivey Resources off-campus

Frequently Asked Questions
1) How do I get on the network/Internet when I arrive on campus?
All Ivey locations use the uwosecure-v2 wireless network.
Select UWOSECURE-V2 wireless network on your devices and authenticate using your full Ivey email address and password.
2) How do I print/how can I get the printers installed?
There are 2 PhD printers, with colour capability available for use. Ivey IT will set the printers up for you during your initial setup. You will be required to use your WesternONE card to login to the printers.
3) How do I access the Ivey Research Server?

Backing Up Your Data
It is imperative you have a backup strategy for your important files and documents. You may use your “H drive” folder on the Ivey Biz-Info server, an external hard drive, burn your files on a DVD/CD, or use a USB memory key. Whatever you do, get into a backup routine right away. If your computer is lost or stolen or your hard drive fails, you will still have your files.
