All incoming MBA students are required to have a laptop computer. Below you will find key information on wireless internet, printing, Apple computers and more. The MBA Program Office will be sending your personal Ivey username and password prior to your arrival.
Laptop Requirements
A new laptop is recommended but most laptops purchased after 2017 will be sufficient. An iPad or Chromebook is not sufficient to meet the program requirements. Both Apple and Windows computers are supported but it is strongly recommended to use a Windows computer running an English Operating System.
Apple Computers
There are applications used during the MBA Program that only run on Windows. Ivey provides a free version of Windows 10 through the Microsoft Azure Dev Tools program and Oracle VirtualBox software or BootCamp for students to run Windows virtually on your Apple computer. Please visit us to have virtual Windows installed on your Mac.
Software Requirements
Microsoft Office
Please note: There are Microsoft Office add-ins used in the MBA Program that only provide full functionality on the Windows version of Office. Although there may be Office add-ins available for Mac Office 2016, their functionality may be limited.
Ivey now provides Microsoft Office for students for FREE by going to https://myoffice.uwo.ca. Login using your UWO username and password.
You may install Microsoft Office on up to 10 devices and you may manage your devices on the Ivey MyOffice website.
- Windows Users: It is recommended you install Microsoft Office 2016. You may download Office 2016 Professional Plus from UWO's MyOffice site (https://myoffice.uwo.ca)
- Support Article: Installing Data Analysis Toolpak and Solver for Excel 2016
- Mac OS X Users: It is recommended you install Windows on your Mac and install Office for Windows.
Operating System
It is recommended you run Windows 10 on your PC or Mac OS X 10.14 (Mojave) on your Apple computer.
Antivirus
A full version of antivirus with auto update enabled should be installed on your laptop. Windows 10 has a built in antivirus - Windows Defender.
