As part of creating a more secure computing environment on campus, we have blocked access to desktop machines through Remote Desktop (RDP) from the general internet. Going forward, in order to connect to Ivey resources through RDP, a VPN connection must first be established.
WHILE ON WESTERN CAMPUS
Remote Desktop to Computers and Servers No VPN Required
Maximizer, Ivey Apps (IRIS, GradesLoader, AppViewer etc.) VPN Required on Wireless Only
WHILE OFF MAIN CAMPUS
Remote Desktop to Computers and Servers
(eg. biz-research2) VPN Required
Access to H Drive (biz-info) VPN Required
Maximizer, Ivey Apps (IRIS, GradesLoader etc.) VPN Required
Outlook Web Access No VPN Required
Outlook (Windows Client) No VPN Required*
Depending on your configuration. Outlook Anywhere is enabled by default on new installs of Outlook 2010.
Ivey provides a VPN connection facility to our community, so this transition should have minimal impact on our operations and will help minimize our exposure to remote attacks.
More about the Ivey VPN Connection:
All Ivey supplied laptops have the “Ivey VPN” connection preconfigured.
Once this connection is established with your Ivey credentials, you will have access all Ivey resources as if you were located on campus.
Please be aware that this should be treated as an on-demand service. Only connect when you need direct access to resources and remember to disconnect when you are done.
Non-Ivey Supplied Computers: If you will be working on a non-Ivey supplied computer, please contact the IT Helpdesk at https://support.ivey.ca or ITCentre@ivey.ca to get your connection setup, if needed.
If you currently use a remote desktop connection to Ivey resources, (most notably the Ivey Research users) please take the time to get used to connecting via the Ivey VPN connection first, as the changes will be applied January 30, 2012.
